Confusing pattern repeat instructions

by Terri

The pattern has 286 stitches total. Multiple of 11 stitches.

I can't figure out the following so it comes out even:

*p2 tog twice, (M1,k1) 3x's, M1, p2 together twice; repeat from * to the end of round.

If you follow the directions given you should start each repeat with 11 sts and finish each repeat with 11 stitches.

It might be the 3x's that is causing the confusion. Basically what this means is to do the instructions in the brackets 3 times.

The breakdown of the instructions and the effect on the number of stitches is as follows:

p2 tog twice (reduce from 4 to 2 sts)
M1, K1 three times (add three stitches from 3 to 6)
M1 (add 1 more stitch)
P2 tog twice (reduce from 4 to 2 sts)

So you go from:

2 + 2 (p2 tog) + 3 (M1, K1 3x) + 2 + 2 (p2tog) = 11 sts

to:

2 + 7 + 2 = 11 sts

Hope this helps...
